¡ÆPreliminary study on the status of disasters and hazard policy framework as preventive conservation efforts for heritage collections in Papua New Guinea: A case study on the Papua New Guinea National Museum & Art Gallery and the Kokopo Museum.¡Ç

Í׻ݡ§
Papua New Guinea is frequently affected by disasters and hazards, including climate change, which impact communities, infrastructure, and social services. The discussion outlines the disaster context in Papua New Guinea and its impact on heritage collections, key case studies, major hazards affecting heritage collections, and policy and decision-making gaps. Focusing on the Papua New Guinea National Museum and Art Gallery and the Kokopo Museum, the findings reveal severe risks arising from inadequate collection care and limited application of preventive conservation practices. Furthermore, the absence of clear disaster and hazard policy frameworks has contributed to poor decision-making, increasing the vulnerability of heritage collections during disaster and hazard situations.
